Introduction
- Outline of the Research
- In 2011, WPRO/WHO and AIBHL developed a public health law framework including an assessment tool to assess country-level public health law and legislation. An Expert Consultation on Public Health Law, convened in May 2011, reviewed the tool in terms of its goal and objectives as well as the basic theory and structure. After the review, pilot tests were undertaken in four countries using the tool: Republic of Korea, Vanuatu, Samoa, and the Philippines. A second Expert consultation, convened in October 2011, further refined the tool based
on the results of the pilot test and from other relevant resources.
Assessing status of public health law and legislation will continue in selected countries using the new assessment tool. AIBHL and WPRO will identify one in-country team, composed of public sector staff in MOH, for each country with the responsibility of public health law consultation with WHO country offices and national government. The country team may adapt the tool based on country specific context and carry out the assessment and analysis.
